Throughout the last year, we’ve seen a lot of new rules and regulations put in place – supposedly all meant to keep us safe. And yet, when it comes to our state and national leaders, some apparently feel that because they helped create the rules, they don’t have to abide by them.

Take Michigan’s Democrat Governor and COVID Nazi Gretchen Whitmer, for example.

Whitmer, by far, has been one of the most tyrannical in her handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although she didn’t start shutdowns or mask mandates until she had completed a campaign tour for then-presidential candidate Joe Biden that took her all over and put her in contact with thousands, once she did, she went all in.

In her state, businesses deemed as ‘non-essential’ have been closed down or heavily restricted for nearly a year now. Schools have been shuttered, restaurants limited, hell, she even banned the sale of gardening seeds and house paint for a time.

And when someone broke one of those rules, she made sure to hit them hard, making an example out of most.

But when she wants to break the rules, it’s apparently ok.

Her latest act of hypocrisy took place on Saturday, when photos were leaked of Whitmer sitting around a table at an indoor bar with a dozen other people, without a mask, and not at all social distancing.

According to her very own May 15 guidelines for restaurants and indoor eating, “Consumption of food or beverages is permitted only where patrons are seated, groups of patrons are separated by at least 6 feet, no more than 6 patrons are seated at a table, and groups of patrons do not intermingle.”

Naturally, her not-so-adoring public did not exactly take the news of her irresponsibility well.

As Tori Sachs, the executive director of the Michigan Freedom Fund, stated, “Last week, Whitmer refused to immediately end her ridiculous restrictions, like a maximum of 6 patrons per table for indoor dining. Now Whitmer has once again completely disregarded her own rules.”

Sachs tweeted, “(Whitmer’s) Capacity limits, patrons per table limits, curfews & other ridiculous restrictions need to end immediately. She isn’t even abiding by those rules. A year after the boat episode & Whitmer and those around her still don’t think their Covid rules apply to them.”

Needless to say, Whitmer has found herself in a bit of a jam.

In an effort to climb out of the hole she keeps digging herself, Whitmer made an apology statement on Sunday after news of her rule-breaking became public knowledge.

She said, “Yesterday, I went out with friends to a local restaurant. As more people arrived, the tables were pushed together. Because we were all vaccinated, we didn’t stop to think about it. In retrospect, I should have thought about it. I am human. I made a mistake, and I apologize.”

Show of hands for who actually believes this?

Yea, that’s what I thought, not a hand to be seen.

And since that didn’t work, Whitmer has since made a show of walking back her guidelines on restaurants, in particular, the rule about table limits.

On Monday, Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services announced that as of June 1, there will be no caps for groups sitting at indoor tables. Of course, to make it look as though the only rule being changed were ones Whitmer herself broke, the department also ended capacity limitations to outdoor dining establishments.

It is noted that indoor dining will still only be able to reach 50 percent capacity for now in the state.

Meanwhile, Whitmer will continue to think she’s above it all. At the same time, restaurant owners, the majority of which operate indoor dining facilities given the state’s northern location, struggle to make ends meet. No wonder blue state residents are fleeing en masse for greener pastures in red states, where economies are booming, and their constitutional rights are not being trampled on.

If Whitmer continues, she’ll not only find herself out of a job but without constituents to rule over.
