You would think, as a man who claims to be a devout member of the same faith as over 72 million other Americans, assumed president-elect Joe Biden would tread lightly when it comes to political policies and viewpoints that would seem to go against the moral standards of the Roman Catholic faith. And yet, some of his most recent political opinions and announcements don’t seem to do that at all.
In fact, it seems he and his newly nominated staff members are doing everything they can to decry the long-held faith.
As you can imagine, nearing the top of the list of Biden’s faults against Catholics is his support of abortion. The faith, as a sect of Christianity and one of the most popular ones in the US, has never held that abortion should be allowed, let alone supported or funded by our federal government.
Of course, there is also the issue of Biden’s acceptance and support of the transgender agenda, which has created much controversy in public and private schools throughout the nation.
But more recently, those of the Catholic faith have called into question the nomination of Neera Tanden as the head of the Office of Management and Budget.
Now, Tanden, unlike Biden, doesn’t exactly claim to be Catholic, so the argument is not that she doesn’t follow their religion. Nor is that she is stout liberal and a huge fan of Hillary Clinton. She even worked for Clinton as a former aide.
Instead, it is that she seems to oppose and even discriminate against it at nearly every turn.
Take her help in creating the well-known contraceptive mandate by Health and Human Services put in place under the Obama administration.
As a rule, Catholics are vastly opposed to birth control in nearly every form. And this mandate “sought to force Catholic non-profit organizations, such as the Little Sisters of the Poor, to pay for abortion-inducing drugs, contraception and sterilization in their healthcare plans,” according to Catholic League president Bill Donahue.
Yet, when leaders of the faith, including Catholic Bishops, opposed this “flagrant violation of conscience, Tanden dismissed it, claiming that her “health care” plans were more important than some religious liberty violation. At the end of the day, she was forcing nuns to pay for birth control…
And this is precisely why Donahue says she is a “bad choice” for office and that those of the Catholic faith “cannot trust” her.
In addition to this grievance, Donahue believes that she has been privy to a bevy of information and possibly even helped plan what he would call an uprising within the church, creating division just to further her and her cohorts’ political objectives.
He tells of a time when Tanden was in close communication with then-chairman of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign John Podesta. “He was responsible for creating two phony Catholic groups, Catholics United and Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, both of which falsely argued that Catholic teachings on abortion and sexuality could be rejected by Catholics in good standing.”
In their communication with each other, Tanden and Podesta even decided that any person or Catholic body that rejected their new-found teachings would be labeled as “misogynistic,” effectively creating an entire “misogyny” angle of dealing with those who wouldn’t fall in line.
Tanden has also been a strong supporter of Christine Blasey Ford and her failed legal battle to stop Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh from being confirmed.
And if that’s not enough, there is also the fact that when “allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation had taken place at CAP” (Tanden’s liberal thinktank), she handled it very poorly.
“Tanden, the president, called a staff meeting to assure everyone that there was nothing to worry about. It was at this meeting when she disclosed who the anonymous person was – Tanden made sure everyone knew the identity of the victim.”
Due to the constant harassment and retaliation she faced as a result, the victim was eventually forced to resign. Even Tanden’s own co-workers said it was “impossible to trust her.”
As Donahue says, “If it is impossible for the public to trust Neera Tanden, it is doubly impossible for Catholics to trust her.”
And what does that say about Biden, a man who’s supposed to be Catholic and protect this nation from those who seem to be against it?
