On January 20, his first day as President of the United States, Democrat Joe Biden made it clear to the American people that he loves the leftist ideology of climate change more than the livelihoods and lives of the American people. As I’m sure you remember, he did this by signing an executive order, effectively canceling the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
The project would have employed some 11,000 Americans for several years, including about 8,000 union workers, as well as more than a few hundred Canadian employees. But the climate change goals of the Biden administration were apparently, more important.
According to Biden and others on his staff, the United States needed to set an example for other nations to follow regarding climate control. And they couldn’t very well do that if they allowed for a massive new oil pipeline to be installed across the country.
It would “undermine U.S. climate leadership by undercutting the credibility and influence of the United States in urging other countries to take ambitious climate action.”
Additionally, it was to be the first of many decisions the nation should make to become more eco or climate-friendly.
There’s just one small problem with this narrative: Biden doesn’t really care about climate change. Instead, he’s really just concerned with how much power it can bring him.
How do we know this?
Well, this week gave us a prime example of his complete and utter hypocrisy.
According to NBC News, Biden’s administration just decided to waive sanctions on a Russia-owned company known as Nord Stream 2 A.G., allowing them to push forward with plans to build the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. When finished, the enormous project will supply gas from Russia to Germany.
Additionally, Biden is waiving sanctions against the companies’ German CEO Matthias Warnig.
So while America and the millions needing to attain a job in an already lower than average workforce are forced to go without, Russia and Germany have just been given a massive green light.
The question now is, how is Biden going to get away with this? After all, members from both sides of the aisle, as well as leaders and representatives from a number of Eastern European nations, have spoken out in criticism of the decision.
As NBC News reported, “Republican lawmakers immediately accused the administration of handing Russian President Vladimir Putin a major political victory. Democrats urged the White House to reconsider, and the Kremlin called the new a ‘positive signal.”
Democratic New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez said, “I am opposed to the decision by the Biden administration to waive sanctions on NS2 AG and Matthias Warnig.”
And Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said Biden appeared to be “actively helping Putin build his pipeline” and added that at this point, Biden could very well have the “most pro-Russian administration of the modern era.”
Well, according to Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and his words to The Associated Press, the Biden Administration is in significant opposition to the Russian pipeline. “Our opposition to the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is unwavering.”
However, it appears diplomatic relationships between the U.S. and Germany, as well as the U.S. and Russia, could use this sacrifice. As Blinken wrote in a State Department report obtained by NBC News, the sanctions, if not waived, “would negatively impact U.S. relations with Germany, the E.U. and other European allies and partners.”
Additionally, the report claimed that these waivers could help the U.S. further its fight against climate change, as well as COVID-19.
I fail to see how giving the green light for a fossil fuel reliant pipeline, crossing multiple nations, helps fight climate change. In fact, I’m pretty sure it would have the exact opposite response.
And about setting an example for other nations… Well, Biden just essentially told the world that he doesn’t care about climate change in the least.
Of course, Blinken did also add that the waivers would not be the end of the story. According to what state officials told Axios, the Biden administration will still “try to stop this pipeline” with sanctions. Apparently, just not these sanctions.
Yeah, we’ll see about that. Biden also said that he’d find new jobs for all those affected by the Keystone XL pipeline cancelation, and that’s not happened either.
