By now, it has been abundantly clear that the Democrats did not perform as well as they would have like in the 2020 election – especially in the House of Representatives. House Speaker and Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi and many others had predicted wins out the wazoo, allowing the ever-left-leaning party to not only keep their control in the lower house but strengthen it significantly.
However, in reality, what happened was that they were barely able to keep their prized majority, losing a total of 10 house seats to Republicans and possibly more in the days to come.
Naturally, the losses are of great concern to the party and the many committees charged with making sure wins are possible. And given that the losses were so vastly unprepared for, it has caused nearly everyone to look for someone to blame.
By and far, that blame has been laid at the feet of progressive lawmakers like New York’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her squad of equally disgracefully anti-American females. The foursome has led the way in what House Majority Whip James Clyburn calls “sloganeering,” or the act of throwing around slogans on a whim and riling up the people in their name.
And it is believed that these slogans and their rhetoric are causing the nation to view Democrats in a bad light.
Take Democratic Representative Conor Lamb of Pennsylvania, for example.
In his rather reddish district, the progressive notions of banning fracking and defunding the police just aren’t all that popular. Lamb doesn’t approve of these policies, either. But because loudmouths like AOC keep pushing them forward in the name of the party, many in the community are hesitant about keeping a Democrat in leadership.
He said recently that the messages of “defunding the police and banning fracking” have made it harder for him to win his re-election. He added that “the rhetoric and the policies and all that stuff – it has gone way too far. It needs to be dialed back.”
But it seems AOC and her cohorts have no such plans. In fact, according to recent statements on the subject, they are more determined than ever to speak their piece and “aggressively fight” for their agenda, regardless of what the moderates of the party want.
Here is Squad member Rashida Tlaib’s opinion on the matter, according to Politico.
“We are not interested in unity that asks people to sacrifice their freedom and their rights any longer. And if we truly want to unify our country, we have to really respect every single voice. We say that so willingly when we talk about Trump supporters, but we don’t say that willingly for my Black and brown neighbors and from LGBTQ neighbors or marginalized people.”
She said she has no qualms about getting loud about the movements she supports, whether it is taking money away from police, pushing BLM, or wanting more for climate change.
In addition, she and her squad members aren’t willing to take the blame for any losses. But not only do they that it isn’t their fault, but it is that of the very people who are blaming them – the moderates.
In a memo that top progressives such as Tlaib have been circulating, the far left argued that, in the election, Democrats who supported these far-reaching slogans and pushes to the left were actually winning, while moderates were the ones losing.
“Four of the six House Democrat who lost rank are among the ten most conservative Democrats in the House (Peterson, Brindisi, Cunningham, Horn). All six rank among the 22 most conservative… All of the Democrats in swing districts who are Medicare for All co-sponsors won their re-elections, and all but one of the Democrats in swing districts who are Green New Deal co-sponsors won their re-elections.”
Of course, they failed to mention just which swing districts these were. My guess is that they are ones that already lean to the left a good ways. But this just goes to show you how far off the far left is from the rest of the nation.
AOC and Tlaib act like what they stand for is prevalent everywhere, and with everyone, and as such, they could walk into any district and win it on their policies alone. However, as Lamb proves, that simply isn’t the case.
If anything, those talking points are pushing Americans away from the left – and the Democrats as a whole. And unfortunately, it seems like the moderates like Lamb who are losing out.
