If I didn’t know any better, I’d say President Joe Biden intends to lose all his supporters. Now, I know that’s not really his plan here, but it seems that with every decision he makes, or in this case unmakes, he ends up with less and less who actually support him and approve of his presidential policies.
Take the ongoing border crisis, for instance.
We all know that he received no small amount of support from those who approve of letting in more and more immigrants on a yearly basis during his campaign. Additionally, those who weren’t happy with Trump essentially shutting down the borders gave Biden support too.
No doubt, they were all thrilled when Biden was announced the winner and starting making policy plans that would essentially undo all of Trump’s work.
For example, in August, Biden made it very clear that once he was in the White House, he would put a stop to all border wall construction and confiscation of land on which to build the wall, a practice known as eminent domain.
As Politico reported, not “another foot” of the wall could be built on Biden’s watch, not another acre of land be taken by the US government along the border.
Biden told NPR in August, “End. Stop. Done. Over. Not going to do it. Withdraw the lawsuits. We’re out. We’re not going to confiscate the land.”
And yet, a mere eight months later, here we are, and Biden is now reversing that decision.
Not only is he not dropping the current lawsuits against the government for land seizure, but he is continuing to take more land from private citizens.
In Hidalgo County, Texas, one family was just informed that their land would, in fact, be seized by Biden’s administration, a parcel of about 6 acres.
Landowner Baudilia Cavazos told Reason, “We are utterly devastated. We thought that President Joe Biden would protect us. Now, we’ve lost our land. We don’t even know what comes next.”
It would be one thing if the land were seized to construct the border wall, as Trump had done. At least then, the family could possibly see some reason as to why their land was needed or know that a greater good was being served.
But Biden has no such reasoning. He’s not building the wall. So why does he need the Cavazos land?
No one seems to know.
The only thing the Cavazos family knows is that a promise made to them by Biden was broken.
Reynaldo “Rey” Anzaldua Cavazos told Politico, “I’m… very, very disappointed in Joe Biden. I thought he was a man of his word, but apparently he’s not keeping his word. He said not one more foot of wall and no land forfeitures. We took him at his word and we want him to keep his word.”
But as the New York Times recently pointed out, that’s not the only promise Biden has broken regarding the southern border.
As you likely know, Biden pledged to increase the annual number of refugees allowed to be admitted onto US soil.
But now that he has a crisis on his hands and the southern states are seeing a massive flood of illegals crossing over daily, he’s been forced to walk back on that as well. Instead of increasing those numbers, he will leave the cap of refugees at 15,000, which is what former President Donald Trump set it at when he was in office.
To say the political left is displeased with this decision is quite an understatement.
And don’t even get me started on all the jobs Biden promised Americans, many of which were nixed on Biden’s very first day in office, not only from his cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline project but by his forbidding of the border wall construction.
The wall, which already had builders’ contracts bought and paid for by the Trump administration, would have employed hundreds along the southern border, bringing much-needed income to small border towns along the way.
But now, those workers have been forced to search for employment elsewhere. Not to mention, the abandoned project has left literal crates and pallets of building materials to just sit and rot in the desert sun – again, all of it already bought, paid for, and ready to be used.
Pretty soon, thanks to Biden’s apparent inconsistency and broken promises, he’ll be left with practically no one to support him at all.
